Idiomas Carlos V Sevilla has celebrated the awards ceremony of the 1st International Spanish Competition “Memory of an Anniversary”, a cultural and educational initiative organised to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the marriage of Emperor Charles V and Isabella of Portugal.
The competition brought together Spanish language students from around the world, combining language learning, creativity and historical reflection. This first edition attracted more than 140 entries from over 10 countries, across four categories: Poster, Essay/Short Story, Micro-story and Podcast.
An International Language School in Seville
The competition forms part of the cultural and academic activities organised by Idiomas Carlos V Sevilla, located in the Los Remedios district of Seville. Alongside its internationally recognised Spanish programmes, the school offers its CIEX Foreign Language Courses in English, German, French and Italian, as well as preparation for official international examinations such as Cambridge, CILS and TELC.
By combining language education with cultural initiatives, the school continues to promote meaningful learning experiences that encourage international exchange and intercultural understanding.
Celebrating Creativity Through Language
The awards ceremony recognised the creativity, dedication and talent of the participating students, as well as the commitment of the teachers and educational institutions that supported the project. The submitted works stood out for their originality and for successfully combining Spanish language learning with artistic expression and the exploration of a significant historical event.
In the Essay/Short Story category, first prize was awarded to Shreya Chopra (United States), while Stefano Ricci (Italy) received second prize.
In the Micro-story category, Edoardo Lamon (Italy) won first prize and Sonja Reljin (Serbia) was awarded second prize.
The Poster category was won by Alžbeta Svorakova (Czech Republic), with Emilia Wilk (Poland) receiving second prize.
Finally, in the Podcast category, Gerda Héder (Hungary) was awarded first prize, followed by Simona Bardaro (Italy) in second place.
Promoting Spanish Language and Culture Worldwide
Idiomas Carlos V Sevilla highlighted that the first edition exceeded expectations, both in terms of participation and the outstanding quality of the entries received. The competition reinforces the school’s commitment to promoting the Spanish language internationally while developing educational projects that connect language, culture and history.
Following the success of this inaugural edition, the school is already preparing the 2nd International Spanish Competition, which will launch in September under the theme “The Generation of ’27”. The new edition will invite Spanish learners from around the world to explore and creatively reinterpret the work and legacy of one of Spain’s most influential literary movements.

With the awards ceremony, the first edition of the competition comes to a successful close, laying the foundations for future editions that will continue to inspire creativity, cultural exchange and the learning of Spanish among students worldwide.
