Creative competition to mark the 500th anniversary of the wedding of Charles V and Isabella of Portugal.

Memories of an anniversary

Carlos V Education is organizing a creative contest on the occasion of the 500th anniversary of the wedding of Charles V and Isabella of Portugal, held at the Royal Alcázar of Seville in 1526. An opportunity for Spanish students to discover the history and culture of Seville through creativity.

Competition rules for Spanish students

Objective

To encourage the interest of Spanish students in Hispanic history, language, and culture, with Charles V and his relationship with Seville as the central theme.

Non-Spanish-speaking students of Spanish (ELE), between 12 and 18 years old, may participate in two categories:

12-14 years old

Category A

15-18 years old

Category B

Participation is open individually and in only one category exclusively to non-Spanish-speaking students who are enrolled in official Spanish studies at their schools and institutes.

Registrations must be completed through the teachers responsible for the participating students, who will take on the task of submitting the works presented by their students.

Each participant may take part in only one category.

Story / Short essay

Text between 700 and 1,000 words. PDF format, Century Gothic 11 font, 1.5 line spacing.

Short story

Text must not exceed 150 words. PDF format, Century Gothic 11 font, 1.5 line spacing.

Podcast

Presentation in audio format lasting between 3 and 5 minutes. Format: MP3 or WAV, minimum quality 128 kbps.

Poster

Drawing or graphic image that may be created using any technique and must include the title of the competition. Entries that have been copied from existing works or downloaded from internet image banks will not be considered. The graphic design format must be submitted as a digital file with a resolution of 300 ppi (pixels per inch) and a minimum size of A4 (2480 x 3508 pixels), preferably in portrait format.

1st prize

Diploma and scholarship to participate in the International Summer Programme in Seville for one week.

2nd prize

Diploma and materials from Carlos V Education

Teacher of Winners

The teacher of the winning students will receive a scholarship to attend a one-week course in the Teacher Training programme in Seville.

Winners' Schools

The winners' schools will receive a commemorative plaque made from traditional ceramics.

The communication will be sent to teachers via email and the list will be published on social media in the following days.

Summer 2026 (in Seville)

The works must be submitted through the responsible teacher using the registration form, which can be accessed via the “I Want to Participate” button. The submitted files must be labeled with the participant’s FIRST NAME, LAST NAME, and SCHOOL:

  • The works must be original, unpublished, and in Spanish.
  • Each student may submit only one work.
  • Participation in this contest implies acceptance of these rules in the registration form and the express authorization of a parent or legal guardian.
  • The awarded works may be published digitally or displayed during the anniversary, always citing the student author.
  • Registration implies acceptance that participation may involve the publication and exhibition of selected works. Participants authorize the exhibition of selected works for promotional, non-profit purposes, without payment of rights to third parties.
  • Authors agree not to use copyrighted materials. If including images, audio, or other elements, they must be public domain, open-license, or properly licensed.
Jury The jury will be composed of Spanish teachers from the Carlos V School and the University of Seville, as well as technicians from the Seville City Council and members of the Federation of Spanish as a Foreign Language Schools (FEDELE), specialists in literature, history, and communication. The jury’s decision will be final and binding. Evaluation Criteria
